Loved this piece so much. Much like your dad, I raised my four kids to like “good music” and took pride that 3 out of the 4 actually do have exceptionally good taste, with one being in a band and currently embedded in the Chicago scene, 2 were college radio DJ’s, etc. My boys have grown up going to shows with me, and if it’s the right band on the right tour (Pavement reunions are a sure bet) we will fly all over the country to meet for shows. Three of us fell hard for Geece but only one of my boys was able to secure a ticket to the Halloween show in SD. I have never had such fomo in my life as I experienced last week, checking resale tix multiple times a day and watching prices go from the already ridiculous $300 at the end of September to upwards of $2000 for a GA ticket to the LA show on the day of. Like you said, they’ll never play this small of venues ever again and I’m not sure I’ll ever get over it lol.
As a former label guy and band manager as well as a dad, I loved your take here. My son and I shared going to shows in the 90s and aughts - a great era for music. You nailed it. Both “the moment” and the familial bond. Beautiful piece. Oh - also - go ahead and let yourself go - this band is stellar and they (or at least Cameron) will be around for ages.
1) First impressions of earth IS a secret masterpiece
2) paid $40 after fees in Chicago. Face value. Artist presale. I feel like if people don’t learn, and don’t follow artists (or venues), then overpaying on the resale market is a tax on the lazy and the latecomers for the most part. Bots and scalpers complicate this argument. But for Geese it seems like the hype is was ahead of even them.
3) I don’t have their full tour history, but as a fan since their debut (Covid means little to no tour) and 3D Country they were a supporting act for King Gizzard when they came through. I read this energy, especially for 3D Country and the demand as a result of this being their first real headlining tour.
I regret missing this show. It really has been a stacked week of music in S.F. Last night (Wednesday), Water From Your Eyes, Ryan Davis & The Roadhouse Band, and Drugdealer were all in town. Thanks for writing this piece so that I could experience the show vicariously through you.
I was there too! I agree the album is really special. My takeaways about the show aren't quite the same as yours, but like you I'm glad the younger folks there had a good time.

I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you next time Susan
Big up the older folks who stay young forever, I offer aspirationally. Nice review.

3D country clears the new one.
